Flatfile chose Fairwinds Insights, policy-driven configuration validation software, to audit and baseline Kubernetes cluster configurations both on-prem and for its SaaS solution.
Flatfile's mission is to remove barriers between humans and data. With AI-assisted data onboarding, they eliminate repetitive work and make B2B data transactions fast, intuitive, and error-free. Flatfile automatically learns how imported data should be structured and cleaned, enabling customers and teams to spend more time using their data instead of fixing it. Flatfile has transformed over 300 million rows of data for companies like ClickUp, Blackbaud, Benevity, and Toast.
Flatfile uses Kubernetes both on-prem and in the cloud to deliver its products Portal and Concierge. The team is able to standardize across any infrastructure using Kubernetes.
The engineering team required a solution for validating container configurations prior to providing Portal, its on-prem solution to customers. This would allow the team to baseline the product so that in the event a customer made any changes that required Flatfile’s support, the team could review configurations.
Flatfile found Fairwinds Insights, a SaaS solution that automates issue detection across Kubernetes clusters and containers to prevent configuration errors from entering production environments. The software integrates into CI/CD pipelines and Kubernetes clusters, providing an end-to-end solution for running secure, reliable, and efficient infrastructure.
Robert Trencheny, Head of Infrastructure at Flatfile said, “We first used Fairwinds Insights as an audit tool for our on-prem Portal solution. It allows our team to enforce security by scanning containers for vulnerabilities and audit clusters for weaknesses and ensure reliability before handing the solution to our customers. It ensures our customers can offer their users the import experience they dream of, but never had the time to build.”
Fairwinds Insights enables the Flatfile team to maintain consistent, secure Kubernetes-based applications, reduce trial-and-error CPU and memory resource settings that can eat into engineering time and proactively identify changes needed to maintain reliable Kubernetes workloads. It also enables Flatfile to scale their SaaS infrastructure efficiently, by providing visibility into CPU and memory resource settings that can save money.
Flatfile raised $7.6M in 2020 to fund the launch of its new enterprise focused offering, Concierge. The team expanded usage of Fairwinds Insights runs inside its SaaS clusters helping the team to stay on top of what’s happening in multi-regions. If an alert is generated, the Fairwinds Insights Slack integration informs the team so they can address the issue. Trencheny said, “We can ensure the reliability of our multi-region clusters will less manual effort and avoid downtime.”
